Having a baby due at Christmas is a wondrous thing. It puts the gifts, the tinsel, the food, the chaos in perspective. When the moment comes that baby Lyric is ready, all of our preparations for the holiday will be put aside. Gifts will go unopened, food will not be cooked, and all the tinsel and lights will be dim next to the glow that comes from a mother’s first look at her firstborn child.
We celebrate the birth of the Christ Child this week. Once, 2011 years ago, on a starry night, a mother gazed at her firstborn son. She held him close and rocked him gently to sleep, singing songs buried in the heart of every woman on earth. Her gift to Him was her love and her devotion to her God. He had asked her to do something that caused her great embarrassment and much hardship. But because she loved her God with all her heart, she went through the pain of childbirth. When it was all over, she held her newborn son in her arms and presented Him to the world. And hopefully someone brought her chocolate!
