Love is one of those words that can make or break people. It has dozen’s of definitions in the dictionary. It covers a multitude of emotions. I love chocolate. I love puppies. I love my grandchildren. I love my church. I love football. We throw the word “love” around like it is a catch-all for anything we desire. But what is love really?
I think that most people would agree that the absence of love for each other is what drives many of the problems in our society. In contrast, love for the things of the world is also a factor in those same problems.
God has given us better definitions of the word love than any dictionary ever could.
John 3:16 sums up the deepest meaning of love. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only son
John 15:13 shows us what to do with love. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
Colossians 3:14 shows us how love works. “put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
Proverbs 10:12b reminds us what love does. “love covers all offenses.”
I have struggled for most of my life with the belief that God would love someone like me. I just couldn’t comprehend that I was worth loving. Especially by God. It was only after coming to an understanding that nothing I have done or will do can ever separate me from His all-encompassing love that I was able to grasp even a portion of that great love. Every day that I open the pages of the Bible I am reminded again just how much He loves me.
I was recently blessed to review Jennifer Rothschild’s new book 66 Ways God Loves You. Jennifer has put together a unique reminder that in every way and in every circumstance, God loves you. The story of God’s great love for you can be found in each of the 66 books of the Bible. From Genesis where we learn that He loved us so much He used His own breath to give us life straight through to Revelations where He reminds us that we are His Bride and He will return for us, we can see the evidence of His love. You can use this wonderful book to dig deeper into God’s Word, His love letter to His most beloved creation.
I am giving away a copy of 66 Ways God Loves You. Just comment here on the blog or on the Facebook post for your chance to win . Or if you can’t wait you can buy it right now HERE. Don’t forget that Christmas is fast approaching and this book would make a great gift for those you love!
